Are Your Annual Health Checks Doing More Harm Than Good?

Experts now warn that annual health checks and targeted screenings might not be as beneficial as we think. The long-held belief that they save lives is now being challenged, suggesting they could even be harmful.

Many people believe that regular health check-ups, often called annual physicals, are essential for staying healthy. We are told they help find diseases early and save lives. However, some experts now argue this might not be true. They suggest that these general check-ups are promoted with false claims. This concern also extends to specific screenings, like mammograms for breast cancer. For decades, women have been encouraged to get screened with the promise that early detection saves lives and means less severe treatment is needed. But new information challenges this long-held belief, suggesting that the benefits have been overstated.
