The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is facing criticism for making it hard to access safer nicotine products. Experts argue that vapes and nicotine pouches are much less harmful than cigarettes and could help smokers quit traditional tobacco.
Public health experts say we have a clear chance to reduce the harm caused by smoking. Products that deliver nicotine without burning tobacco, like vapes, heated tobacco, and nicotine pouches, are known to be much safer than cigarettes. Many smokers want to switch to these less dangerous options. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is making it very difficult for these products to be sold legally. This policy is seen as a major obstacle. Critics argue the FDA is blocking a key opportunity to help people move away from deadly cigarettes and improve public health on a large scale. The current approach may be preventing smokers from accessing alternatives that could save their lives.
