A prominent doctor accuses the FDA of blocking access to safer nicotine products like vapes and pouches. He argues this policy prevents smokers from switching to less harmful options, missing a major chance to save lives and improve public health.
A leading public health expert argues that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is making a serious mistake. He says the evidence is clear that modern nicotine products are much safer than traditional cigarettes. Items like vapes, heated tobacco, and nicotine pouches do not involve burning, which is what causes the most harm from smoking. Despite this, the FDA is creating barriers that prevent smokers from switching to these less dangerous options. The expert believes this is a massive missed opportunity to save lives. He suggests that by accepting these newer products, the country could drastically reduce deaths and diseases caused by smoking. The current policy, he warns, is blocking a major step forward for public health and harm reduction.
