Modern medicine struggles with complexity despite vast knowledge. We have lost the simple, holistic approach once championed by figures like Maimonides. This overlooked wisdom could offer valuable lessons for improving patient care today.
Today's medicine is not failing because we lack knowledge. Instead, it struggles under its own great complexity. Our current time offers huge amounts of information, new technologies, many different medical fields, and strict rules for patient care. Almost every part of treating patients can now be measured and made standard. However, this focus on complex systems may mean we have forgotten simpler, older ways of healing. Think of the wisdom of figures like Maimonides, who understood medicine differently. His approach was perhaps more direct and less complicated. Looking back at such historical wisdom might help us find better paths for modern health care, moving away from overwhelming complexity towards more effective, human-centered treatment.
