The idea is to create a protective barrier, or cocoon, around the child, who is too young for their own vaccinations. The primary focus is preventing whooping cough, also known as pertussis, which can be very dangerous for babies. The cocooning concept also aims to shield infants from other contagious diseases like influenza, Covid-19, and RSV. By immunizing those in close contact, the risk of passing on a harmful infection to a vulnerable newborn is significantly reduced.
