The former FDA commissioner has confirmed the agency was investigating child deaths after Covid-19 vaccination. This admission followed internal disputes at the agency over how to address the reports. The statement came during a public interview in 2025.

In September 2025, Dr Marty Makary, then head of the US Food and Drug Administration, spoke openly about the agency’s review of reports involving children who died after receiving Covid-19 vaccines. He stated during a CNN interview that officials knew some children had died from the shots.

By that point, however, a fierce internal dispute had already taken shape inside the FDA. Staff members disagreed on the best way to examine and respond to the safety concerns raised by the reports. The tension highlighted challenges in managing vaccine safety data.

Makary’s comments drew attention to the agency’s ongoing work on these cases. They also showed the difficulties regulators face when balancing public health information with internal reviews. The episode remains a point of discussion among health officials and the public.
