WHO experts found no proof that the coronavirus came from lab experiments. They believe it arose from natural changes instead. A new paper from their advisory group supports this view on the virus origins.
The Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens works under the World Health Organization. This group was tasked with finding out how SARS-CoV-2 first appeared. In their latest paper, members stated they saw no evidence that the virus resulted from lab manipulation.
They concluded that natural events were more likely. These include mutations or recombination in animals or the wild. The report makes clear that experimental changes in a laboratory do not fit the evidence better than natural causes.
This stance matches previous WHO positions on the pandemic start. The debate over virus origins continues among global scientists. Such findings may guide future efforts to stop similar outbreaks.
