Journal Under Fire for Omitting Pfizer Flu Shot Data on Seniors

The New England Journal of Medicine faces criticism for failing to publish data from Pfizer's mRNA flu vaccine trial in older adults. This group is most at risk from influenza, yet the data from younger adults already showed little benefit and notable harms.

The New England Journal of Medicine is under fire this week for omitting key data from a Pfizer trial. The study tested an mRNA flu shot in adults. Results for people aged 18 to 64 showed almost no clinical benefit. Harms appeared more significant than first reported.

The journal did not include findings from older adults in the same trial. These seniors face the greatest danger from flu each year. Critics argue the omission leaves the public without full information on a vaccine meant to protect the most vulnerable.

Reporter Maryanne Demasi highlighted the issue at the Brownstone Institute. She noted that the full story goes beyond initial headlines. The missing data raises questions about transparency in medical publishing and how trial results reach the public.
